Why we push it

Most trips go to plan. The ones that don't tend to cost a lot if you haven't insured them. A common comprehensive policy on a $4,000 trip runs about 5-8 percent of the trip cost ($200-$320) and covers cancellation, interruption, medical, evacuation, baggage, and supplier insolvency.

Once you're past the supplier's non-refundable window (often 30 days before departure), insurance is the only way to recover money on a cancellation. Buy it early - some benefits like pre-existing condition waivers require purchase within 14-21 days of your initial trip deposit.

What insurance typically covers

  • Trip cancellation: refund for covered reasons - illness, injury, death in the family, jury duty, job loss, weather, supplier bankruptcy
  • Trip interruption: reimbursement and rebooking if you have to come home early or are stranded mid-trip
  • Medical and evacuation: treatment abroad and, if needed, transport to an adequate facility or back home
  • Baggage: lost, stolen, or delayed luggage
  • Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR): optional add-on that returns 50-75 percent of trip cost when you cancel for a reason not covered by the standard policy

How we offer it

Savvy Getawayss is not a licensed insurance producer. Coverage is offered through licensed third-party providers (Allianz, Travel Guard, Trawick, and supplier-direct programs) arranged via our host agency, Outside Agents. We will present options that fit your trip and your tolerance for risk; the actual policy contract is between you and the insurer.

If you decline coverage

You're welcome to. By proceeding without insurance, you accept that:

  • cancellation refunds will follow the supplier's published schedule and may be zero
  • medical costs incurred abroad are your responsibility
  • schedule changes, weather events, and supplier insolvency may result in unrecoverable losses
  • Savvy Getawayss is not liable for losses that insurance would otherwise have covered

We'll note the decline on file and proceed without it.
